About The Author
Hello! I am President and CEO of Music Canada, an association that promotes the interests of the Canadian music community. Music Canada is a passionate advocate for music in Canada, a trusted source of music-related news and information, and a respected forum for all things music. I've led and inspired numerous initiatives to advance Canada’s music industry, among them the Ontario and BC Music Funds and municipal initiatives to unite communities around the idea of celebrating and promoting the extensive musical assets in their cities. I have also been instrumental in improving the protection of creators’ rights. I've been been working with artists for more than 30 years, first as one of Canada’s leading entertainment lawyers and later as Senior Vice-President, Business Affairs and eCommerce at Universal Music Canada. I contributes my time to a variety of Boards. I am Chair of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and a member of the board of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall. In 2013 I was inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
I'm married to Margo Timmins of Cowboy Junkies and we have a son, Ed. I am a lifelong student of Percy Bysshe Shelley, as well as of Canadian, Russian and Ancient history - Cicero and Homer are a favourite. I graduated from the University of Guelph with a double major in English Literature and Fine Art History. I finished a Masters at the University of Toronto (with the late great Milton Wilson), writing on "Prometheus Unbound and the Problem of Opposites". I also have a law degree from the University of Toronto. Finally I am on the Board of the Keats-Shelley Association of America.
