Here’s the bare bones of the story. Shelley went sailing. Shelley drowned. Shelley’s badly decomposed body turned up on a beach ten days later. Shelley’s friends cremated his body under somewhat extraordinary circumstances. It was alleged that his heart had, as if by a miracle, survived the intense heat - heat sufficient to reduce his bones to ashes. And was born a myth or a legend or a miracle call it what you will, that has survived to this day.
